Desiree Heckman
FOUNDER/INSTRUCTOR, E-RYT 500
Hi, I’m Desiree. I’m a yoga teacher, educator, and the owner of Old Town Yoga here in Clovis, California. I started practicing in 2013, after stumbling across a YouTube class led by Yogi Nora, an experience that sparked something in me and changed the direction of my life. I walked away from that first practice feeling taller, clearer, and more alive than I had in years, and I’ve been in love with yoga ever since.
What began as a way to “get in shape” quickly became a practice that supported me far beyond the physical. I continued practicing through both pregnancies and, in 2015, felt called to take the leap into yoga teacher training. I’m forever grateful to my teachers, Travis Eliot and Daniel Head, whose guidance, wisdom, and encouragement helped shape my foundation and gave me the confidence to step into teaching.
I’ve now been teaching for 10 years and have owned and operated Old Town Yoga for 9. Over the years, my teaching has evolved to focus on accessibility, sustainability, and helping people feel welcome and capable in their own bodies, especially beginners, women in their 40s and beyond, and anyone who has ever felt out of place in traditional yoga spaces.
At the studio, I teach classes, lead retreats, and run teacher trainings, CEU courses, and mentorship programs for yoga teachers and studio owners. My greatest joy is creating spaces where people feel safe, supported, and connected, to themselves and to each other.
I truly believe yoga is for every body, every age, and every season of life, and I’m grateful every day to share this practice with our community.
